1. A cough may be an allergic reaction to allergens inside the home or at work. Remove all things that may cause an allergic reaction like dust, flowers, pets, foods and even perfume. If you live near a busy street, vacuum as often as possible to remove cough inducing dust and dirt. Cover your windows with blinds or curtains if there is too much pollution outside the home.

5. Lozenges also offer relief from cough especially from dry and hacking cough. This home remedy for cough may be taken as often as you need it. Gargle with warm water after taking a lozenge since most lozenges may cause dryness and a distinguishing after taste.
6. Water is an effective way to stop cough especially the type of cough that may awaken a person at night. If you suffer from this kind of irritating cough, have a glass full of water by your night stand and drink as often as you need it to reduce coughing at night.
7. Gastric secretions may also cause a person to cough and this happens when there is gastric reflux after a full meal. It is advised then to eat lightly before sleeping and allow 2 hours after a meal before sleeping to prevent reflux of gastric acids.
